Hello. I hope this is the right forum, if not please tell me where to post it.
The new Media Sharing feature in Ubuntu 19.10 gives you an easy way to set up a DLNA server on Ubuntu without installing third-party software like Emby, Jellyfin, or Plex. You get to access your files over your local network through any DLNA and UPnP compatible device, including smart TVs, games consoles (like the Playstation 3 & 4), or DLNA.
I have an HP DV7 laptop running Linux Mint Rosa x64 with Cinnamon. Under win7 I could play certain files through the wifi to my Samsung smart tv but have been unable to work out how to do it with this OS.

- Apr 10, 2020 Rygel is a home media solution (UPnP AV Media Server) allows you to easily share audio, video, and pictures to smart TV, game consoles, or other devices over a home network. Since Ubuntu 19.10, Rygel is installed out-of-the-box, and Settings utility offers an option to easily toggle the service.
I have tried installing Serviio, Rygel and Universal Media Server. The closest I got was having UMS actually find the TV, but wouldn't play to it. Usually I was getting an error message saying the address was already in use. Unfortunately it didn't say which address or how to fix that.
Ubuntu Dlna Client
I uninstalled all three, reinstalled UMS. This time it suggested I needed to uninstall and reinstall Java. I've uninstalled UMSt again and am at a loss.Ubuntu Dlna Server Samsung Tv Setup
Under Menu > Programming I have Oracle Java 7 Mission Control and Oracle Java 8 Mission Control. I'm happy to add any other info that will help diagnose this, just tell me what you need and how I find it.
Incidentally, I can play to the TV with an HDMI cable. Just can't get it to broadcast through wifi.
Thanks in advance.
You have a nice new Samsung led TV with Ethernet support. You also have an Ubuntu server in your network. You want to make use of the media support of the TV but don't know how.
Ubuntu Dlna Server Samsung Tv Best Buy
I have a UE40C6000 Samsung TV. So the whole explanation below is based on this TV. I guess that it will also work for the other Samsung Series. The solution given below is done with MediaTomb DLNA server. The default installment as provided by aptitude does not work correctly with the Samsung TV's…
- install MediaTomb via Ubuntu's apt-get
- open /etc/mediatomb/config.xml in your text editor of choice
- remove the comment tags around the section and make that section look like this:
- Under
, add
- save and close config.xml and restart mediatomb
- load MediaTomb web interface and tell it where to start looking for files. http://localhost:49152/
If you already configured folders to scan etc. in the web interface… You need to remove them all and reload them all to update the mime-types.
If anyone can tell me how to get the youtube streaming to work as well please do tell! Same for the Apple trailers.
As of 2012 I am trying out Serviio as a DLNA server and it seems to work fine with both my Samsung TV's
Pokemon stand alone apk. Update:
